Fan Appreciation Tailgate Party 2011

The Giants are not the only Bay Area team with a superb pitching staff; there is that “other” team over in the East Bay. The Oakland A’s have a very talented and young rotation in Trevor Cahill, Brett Anderson, Gio Gonzalez, and Dallas Braden along with All-Star closer Andrew Bailey.

Offensive additions Hideki Matsui, David DeJesus and Josh Willingham should improve the A’s overall production (third worst offense in 2010). In addition, watch for Kurt Suzuki and Mark Ellis to improve on their 2010 statistics.

Learn more about the A’s this Tuesday March 29, 2011 at the free Fan Appreciation Tailgate Party.

The tailgate takes place in the Oakland Coliseum parking lot A beginning at 4:00 pm and runs until 6:30 pm prior to the exhibition game against the San Francisco Giants. The tailgate is free to the public, and does not require a game ticket. Parking is also free.

The tailgate features player and coaching staff Q&As, autograph sessions, memorabilia displays (including World Series trophies) and more.

Event highlights include:

Tour of Proposed Ballpark Site Sparks High Hopes

Okay, I can only speak for myself but as I stood on the corner of San Fernando and Autumn and looked at the proposed site of the San Jose Athletics ballpark I couldn’t help picturing myself walking through the main entrance of the ballpark on game day and I got pretty excited.

Corner of San Fernando and Autumn

Last night Dennis Korabiak of the San Jose Redevelopment committee took a small group of fans(?) on a tour of the area between Diridon Train Station (Rod Diridon just happened to show up)
and the corner (and hallowed ground if hallowed ground can be secular?) that I hope will one day be the home of a major league ball club. The planners envision extended mass transit such as high speed rail, public art, trails, retail shops, restaurants and clubs. The beautiful artist’s renderings of the proposed ballpark made it easy to imagine this vision coming true. You can go to Pro Baseball San Jose for more details and links to the ballpark plans.

Update: San Jose Ballpark for the A’s

The good news is that the San Jose City Council certified the SEIR report, and we are one base closer to getting a baseball stadium built downtown!

Read about it here at Baseball San Jose.

Bring the A’s to San Jose!

I would welcome with much enthusiasm a ball team here in San Jose. The timing is perfect. The A’s are in need of a new home, and there are many reasons to build them a stadium here. We have a strong fan base, our weather (won’t need to wear a coat), jobs would be created, not to mention the tax revenue benefits our city would enjoy. All this, and no more long drives up and back on Hwy. 880! Just imagine family fun and tailgate parties close to home.

The San Jose City Council will be considering the Environmental Impact Report on a downtown site. Take this opportunity to let the City Council know that we mean business! Gather up your family, friends, and neighbors to attend the City Council meeting.

When: Tuesday, June 15th @ 7 PM
Where: San Jose City Council Chambers

San Jose Giants: Don’t Let Cancer Steal 2nd Base

Baseball Flyer
As a youngster growing up in Modesto one of the highlights of summer was going to a baseball game. Mom brought a Thermos filled with ice cold Kool-Aid and dad brought the cowbell. It was my job to ring the cowbell for the home team. I rang that bell for every base hit, stolen base, runner who crossed home plate, and I gave it an extra big shake for a home run. Those were the days. The kind of days memories are made of.

Today I am ringing a ‘bell’ for a baseball game here in San Jose. The August 15th meet up between the San Jose Giants vs. the Stockton Ports will be more than just a good game, it will also be an event called “Don’t Let Cancer Steal 2nd Base”.
