Circus for the 21st Century

That’s the feeling I came out with when I ultimately managed to catch Kooza by Cirque du Soleil. I watched a full-fledged circus show about 20 years ago and comparatively, this seemed dressed up and spruced up for the new century.

I can really speak to only those who haven’t witnessed Cirque before. The show was spectacular, grand and extreme. The sounds, music and lighting were very well coordinated. With every act, they pushed limits. Our favorites were Balancing on Chairs, Contortion, Juggling and Unicycle Duo. That’s definitely not to say that the other acts were lacking.

While the high pricing for tickets was justified, the almost-outrageous costs of food / drinks and $10 for parking were not. When we shell out almost $100 each for the show, can’t we at least have free parking? Maybe, it’s just me.

If you’re interested, hunt for Kooza tickets on one of its last few days in San Jose.

PS: The music is mildly inspired by ‘Bollywood’. More on misconceptions and misuse of that term in some other post later…
