Shoreline Park @ Mountain View

I’m not sure how popular Shoreline Park at Mountain View is, but I heard of it only recently. I had seen the exit on 101 earlier, but it didn’t really get my attention. This is another piece of land near the Bay, much like Sunnyvale Baylands, but even better.

Created after being a landfill area for dumping trash, it has possibly reached the other extreme of beauty. The main attraction is the artificial lake. Surrounding it are large areas carpetted with grass, interspersed with trails for walking and cycling. It’s summer now and you get a good place to chill out.

You can set sail on a yacht or zip off in a boat. If you’re alone on the shore, you even have ducks (?) for company.

In the same area is a golf course and the Shoreline Amphitheatre. The latter possibly is a popular venue for events and is characterized by the twin dome-like structures.

I guess there is a parking fee, but that’s not for me! Get more details from the official site.

Shoreline Park has miles of paved multi-use trails, which link up with the Stevens Creek Trail and the Bay Trail. I did the majority of my marathon training there and I think it might be one of the best places in the Bay Area to run (walk, bike, blade, etc).

The Aquatic Center is a magnet for windsurfers and features a nice cafe, pretty decent restrooms and lockers.

I’ve never, ever paid a parking fee and I’ve parked there hundreds of times over the years.

Also, people should know that dogs are not allowed past the gates, though there is a dog park at the entrance.
