California Billiard Club: Gregory 9-Ball Open

I have had the opportunity to watch Jeff Gregory in action at California Billiard Club. Jeff is highly respected by his fellow pool players, and makes One Pocket and 9-Ball look effortless.

Jeff has recently undergone open heart surgery. He is now recovering, but he could use help with his medical bills.

Chris Swart, owner California Billiard Club, is hosting a 9-Ball tournament this weekend. $10 of each entry fee will go to the Jeff Gregory Heart Surgery Fund. Also, California Billiard Club will donate $5 for every entry received.

Even if you do not enter the tournament, come out – watch some expert pool and show your support with a donation.

If you can’t make it call California Billiard Club ask for Chris Swart for donation information.

Allison “The Duchess of Doom” Fisher

Allison Fisher

My husband (The Bear) and I try to practice at California Billiard Club as often as possible. In our opinion it is the best room in northern California. It has a good atmosphere and the tables are well maintained. We also enjoy seeing some top players like Rafael Martinez in action.

Just days ago Allison Fisher won her 5th WPBA US Open 9-Ball Championship, and now California Billiard Club is offering an opportunity to learn from this legendary pool and snooker player.

iPhone Alarm Did Not Go Off on Jan. 1st, 2011

I am one of Apples biggest fans, but this morning they owe me an apology. Last night I set two alarms on my designed in Cupertino iPhone. One for 4:35 AM and one for 4:40 AM. My eyes opened to see a big red 5 AM on my (not set) clock radio. I needed to be somewhere at 5:15!

My New Year’s Eve beverages, enjoyed while playing 9 Ball at California Billiard Club, did not get any stronger than diet Pepsi and coffee, and I was home before the New Year ball drop. How could I have slept through two iPhone alarms? Apple let me down. The alarms did not go off! Thankfully, I made my destination on time this morning, but I wonder how many lives were altered by this iPhone glitch? How many users are still asleep?

PCMAG.COM explains it here. I think I need to set the clock radio… ;-(

SUPER BOWL XLIII

The Bay Area may not have a dog in the fight, however San Jose does have a link to the Super Bowl. NFL Official Keith Ferguson, former athlete at Del Mar High School and San Jose State, was chosen as the Back Judge. Officials must have at least five years of experience, as well as having worked previous playoff assignments. The NFL determined that Mr. Ferguson was the highest-rated Back Judge with those qualifications. Look for Keith wearing # 61 – by coincidence this number was also on his Del Mar High School football jersey.

While the men are throwing the pigskin around, I’ll be hitting balls around and enjoying the game on one of the many TVs at the California Billiard Club.
