iPhone Alarm Did Not Go Off on Jan. 1st, 2011

I am one of Apples biggest fans, but this morning they owe me an apology. Last night I set two alarms on my designed in Cupertino iPhone. One for 4:35 AM and one for 4:40 AM. My eyes opened to see a big red 5 AM on my (not set) clock radio. I needed to be somewhere at 5:15!

My New Year’s Eve beverages, enjoyed while playing 9 Ball at California Billiard Club, did not get any stronger than diet Pepsi and coffee, and I was home before the New Year ball drop. How could I have slept through two iPhone alarms? Apple let me down. The alarms did not go off! Thankfully, I made my destination on time this morning, but I wonder how many lives were altered by this iPhone glitch? How many users are still asleep?

PCMAG.COM explains it here. I think I need to set the clock radio… ;-(

TapToTalk has an App

TapToTalk App

I heard from Silicon Valley author and entrepreneur, Phil Bookman, about a new app. Phil is CEO of Assistyx LLC the makers of TapToTalk.

TapToTalk turns a Nintendo DS, iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch into a portable communications (AAC) device. It’s designed for non-verbal children with Autism and other developmental delays. TapToTalk is affordable and fun to use.

TapToTalk apps are free with subscription.

This post is not intended as a commercial for TapToTalk. I’m hoping to get the word out to families about this service and the new apps.

Help Haiti: Use iTunes to Donate!

Donate Now!

Donate Now!

I was on iTunes getting ready to download a movie, when in the background the TV news announced that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie donated $1 million to help with the devastation in Haiti. So, I thought, what am I waiting for? I was about to do a Google search for the Red Cross, when I noticed that iTunes was one step ahead of me. All I had to do was click on “Haiti Earthquake Relief Donate Here”.

San Jose: Starbucks Card Mobile App

Yes, here in Silicon Valley (and Seattle) there’s an app for that.

Starbucks is testing an iPhone/iPod touch app in San Jose, Cupertino, Mountain View, and Sunnyvale, CA. Why here? Because we are cool, or it may be because Apple is here.

My Starbucks Card app was free. It was easy to load my account with my major credit card. I can check my balance, and view my transaction history, etc.

There is a drink and food menu – with cute little pictures. I love it, but the app is only good to use in selected stores.

There is one in San Jose, one in Cupertino (not far from 1 Infinite Loop), one in Sunnyvale, and five (!) in Mountain View. There is even a Starbucks listed for Castro High School. Do they drink more coffee in Mountain View?

There is a place on the app to let Starbucks know what we think. I wish my favorite store (14801 Los Gatos Blvd) was participating.

My iPhone is always with me, and now so is my Starbucks card!

Participating:

Site of Three-alarm Fire Apple 

This morning I stopped by 20705 Valley Green Dr. Building Six to get a look at the fire damage and hopefully speak with someone. There wasn’t much to see unless you count all the TV news trucks and one photographer from the Merc. I did try talking with Apple security, but his lips were sealed. Clean-up crews were on site as was a construction contractor.

All employees were evacuated without harm as firefighters brought a three-alarm fire at Apple’s Cupertino campus under control. The fire on Valley Green Drive was reported just after 10pm Tuesday night.
