Jane’s Walk San Jose 2017

Walks are May 5-7 at various times.

“Jane’s Walks are free, locally organized walking tours, in which people get together to explore, talk about and celebrate their neighborhoods. Where more traditional tours are a bit like walking lectures, a Jane’s Walk is more of a walking conversation. Leaders share their knowledge, but also encourage discussion and participation among the walkers.”

Walks include:

Illuminating Downtown — May 5, 8:00 PM, 1.5 Hours
The walk includes interacting with illuminated artworks.
Meet at the east side of the parking lot under the 87 underpass along Santa Clara. The walk will begin at 8pm.

Capitancillos California Native Plant Demonstration Garden — May 6, 10:00 AM, 1.5 Hours
A .6 mile walk along Capitancillos Drive in South San Jose viewing a demonstration garden of mostly California native, chaparral plants.

A beginner’s guide to downtown San Jose — May 6, 2:00 PM, 1 Hour
A walk that starts at the Diridon Station, past the Shark Tank, and through downtown, to check out restaurants, bars, and other interestingl places.
Meet outside the train station near the car turnaround.

Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History – Free Admission


Free admission to the Santa Cruz Museum on the first Friday of every month.
Museum exhibits focus on the natural history of the Santa Cruz region and the Monterey Bay.
Wildlife & Habitats — On display… Owls, Hawks, a Golden Eagle, Reptiles, Amphibians, Foxes, Coyotes, Bobcat, Mountain Lion, Jack Rabbits, Brush Rabbits, Great Blue Heron, Great Egret, California Quail, Hummingbirds Song Birds, Nests, Calls, Squirrels, Raccoons, Skunks.
Geology of Santa Cruz — The Museum features fossilized bones of whales, dolphins and an entire sea cow skeleton.

Parking is available on Pilkington Avenue or in surrounding streets. From April-September you must get a free parking permit from inside the Museum to park on the museum-side of Pilkington Ave.

Blossom Festival 2017

The Blossom Festival 2017 is March 18 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm in the Saratoga Heritage Orchard and Civic Center area.

Antique cars, vintage motors, children’s crafts, craftspeople, and live music from the 30’ and 40’s calibrating the original Blossom Festival that debuted in 1900. Also, vintage farm vehicles, artists, along with prune and apricot tasting.

Bay Area Pet Expo 2017

The Bay Area Pet Expo at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds is Saturday and Sunday, March 11 &12.
Admission to this indoor event is free (Parking $8.00) and non-aggressive, well-behaved pets are welcome — all pets must be on a fixed lead or in a carrier with proof of appropriate vaccinations.
You will be required to sign a pet waiver at the entrance or you may fill your pet waiver form out in advance here (pdf).

The Expo features pet-friendly exhibitors, pet care tips, grooming, pet behavior & training, along with free nail trims, discounted vaccinations.
Don’t have a pet? Pets are available for adoption.

Free Pancake Day at IHOP

Tuesday, March 7 is National Pancake Day. Get a free short stack of buttermilk pancakes between 7:00 am to 7:00 pm at participating IHOP restaurants.

The pancakes are free, but consider at least a $5.00 donation to the Children’s Miracle Network Hospital (local: Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital). Extra good: make a $5 donation and receive a coupon good for $5 off your next visit.

Free Skating Downtown Ice San Jose

Children 13 and under must be supervised at all times by a parent or guardian 18 or older.
No lockers or secure storage on site.

The Fairmont’s Winter Wonderland

The Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony at Santana Row Tuesday, November 15, 2016 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

The event includes photos with Santa Claus, live music, performances by local theater groups and at 7:00 pm the lighting of the 40-foot Christmas tree.
