San Jose District 6 City Council member Pierluigi Oliverio (blue shirt) arrived at the scene. He was talking of ways to make the streets of Willow Glen safer – - possibly red-light violators could be caught on camera.

Just after nine this morning on my way to the bank, I could see fire Engine 6 up ahead at the intersection of Pine and Hicks. Paramedics were working on someone down on the ground.

A gentleman walking with his wife (in pink) was hit in the crosswalk, when a woman driving a white Toyota made a left turn from Hicks on to Pine. The gentleman, bleeding profusely from a head wound, was taken to the hospital via ambulance.

All this week, any form of exercise (like biking) is dangerous for your lungs. Yesterday a garbage truck flies over the center divider and crashes into a truck carrying coffins on 880 near San Leandro. Both drivers killed and 880 closed for 10 hours. This morning, BART 12th street station is shut down due to a bomb threat with bomb dogs and the bomb squad being called in (turned out to be a false alarm.)

Commuting is getting more dangerous every day.

Say you need to drive 10 miles from work to home. At an average speed of 55 mph (freeway and otherwise), you will need about 11 minutes. If you drove at 50 mph, it will be 12 minutes. Even if you had to do double the distance, you’ll need only an extra 2 minutes. If this is the case, does it make sense to push the limit?

Even if you can’t stick to the posted limit always, try doing it just one day — tomorrow (29 June, Friday) is “Drive Speed Limit Day” says San Jose Mercury News. Almost needless to say, an optimum speed saves gas too, whereas driving too fast brings down your fuel economy.
