Another boring Friday night? Do good and have fun at SLG!

You’ve already seen the newest movies, or you don’t care to see them, and nothing else seems just right for tonight? Why not make the short trip to downtown San Jose and visit SLG Publishing’s Art Boutiki and Gallery for great local live music, a potluck, awesome art, and of course some comics!

I checked out SLG last week for South First Fridays and had an amazing time, so I know tonight has to be just as much fun, if not more!

Tonight’s show is a benefit for the Perry family who are mourning the loss of both Ken Klein, a drug and alcohol counselor, and his girlfriend Jeri Perry. Jeri leaves her son Jason, a high school senior and local music supporter. The couple were struck by a drunk driver going around 100mph last month in Fresno. Just hours prior to the unfortunate accident, Ken had been helping out with a DUI program. All funds raised will go to Jason Perry and his family, and to help raise awareness of the dangers of driving while intoxicated.

The show starts NOW so make your way down there, or let a friend who’s downtown know where to go – SLG Artboutiki and Gallery is located at 577 South Market Street, San Jose.

Red-Light-Runner in Willow Glen

Last Saturday a pedestrian was struck down in the crosswalk on Pine at Hicks. This afternoon a red-light-runner caused this mess at the same intersection. As bad as the rolled van looked, the occupants did not seem seriously injured.

San Jose District 6 City Council member Pierluigi Oliverio (blue shirt) arrived at the scene. He was talking of ways to make the streets of Willow Glen safer – – possibly red-light violators could be caught on camera.

Left Turn Accident in Willow Glen

Just after nine this morning on my way to the bank, I could see fire Engine 6 up ahead at the intersection of Pine and Hicks. Paramedics were working on someone down on the ground.

A gentleman walking with his wife (in pink) was hit in the crosswalk, when a woman driving a white Toyota made a left turn from Hicks on to Pine. The gentleman, bleeding profusely from a head wound, was taken to the hospital via ambulance.

Bike, Car, Train

All this week, any form of exercise (like biking) is dangerous for your lungs. Yesterday a garbage truck flies over the center divider and crashes into a truck carrying coffins on 880 near San Leandro. Both drivers killed and 880 closed for 10 hours. This morning, BART 12th street station is shut down due to a bomb threat with bomb dogs and the bomb squad being called in (turned out to be a false alarm.)

Commuting is getting more dangerous every day.

Arrive Alive

My phone has been ringing with requests for taxi rides. I’m always happy when my customers plan ahead.

One of the best places to hail a taxi: A downtown hotel – like the Fairmont.

Do look at free rides.

DUI – The total Approximate Cost:–$5,540

Drive Speed Limit Day

Say you need to drive 10 miles from work to home. At an average speed of 55 mph (freeway and otherwise), you will need about 11 minutes. If you drove at 50 mph, it will be 12 minutes. Even if you had to do double the distance, you’ll need only an extra 2 minutes. If this is the case, does it make sense to push the limit?

Even if you can’t stick to the posted limit always, try doing it just one day — tomorrow (29 June, Friday) is “Drive Speed Limit Day” says San Jose Mercury News. Almost needless to say, an optimum speed saves gas too, whereas driving too fast brings down your fuel economy.

Lost His Head

Near the intersection of Minnesota & Hicks, some guy lost his head and hit a truck.
