“Fast Friday” at the San José 2007 Grand Prix

Miss San Jose Grand Prix 2006

Thanks to a heads-up from one of my flickr buddies, I heard that there would be a press conference at the San José City Hall Rotunda today at 1pm. San José Mayor Chuck Reed and Grand Prix President Dale Jantzen would be making a major announcement regarding the 2007 Grand Prix. With a quick check of my schedule I was off to town.

Approaching the City Hall Rotunda I could tell that, yes, indeed there was something going on. What I wasn’t expecting was for the door to be locked. After giving it a little knock, a woman opened it just a crack. “Hi, I’m a Yellow cab driver and my taxi is wrapped with an ad for the race, can I come in?” It worked; I was granted entry. I told her about Metroblogging San José and I was handed the official Media Guide.

Enough about me and more about the race. Grand Prix President Dale Jantzen looked pleased when he announced that local race fans will be treated to “Fast Friday” a FREE day of racing. Just their way of saying thanks to the community.

For a FREE general admission ticket for opening day, Friday, July 27th fans must first obtain a voucher.

For a voucher that can be exchanged for a free ticket:

* Go to the Budweiser display at various participating South Bay retail locations - no purchase necessary.

* Visit Go-Kart Racer in Burlingame and purchase a race session.

* Hertz Rental Car will offer vouchers to anyone who rents a vehicle at any of their twenty greater San José locations in July.

* Go to KNTV.com

* Check your San José Mercury News.

* Visit any of the eight South Bay 24-Hour Fitness locations and sign up for an all Club membership.

* See the concierge at Valley Fair.

And my favorite:
* Visit the Smoke Tiki Lounge on Post St. - purchase a Big Kahuna Platter or Smoked entrée.
