Hello,
Please excuse me for commenting a bit out of left field, but I recently came upon your August 9, 2008 post while researching some information on Doors concert dates and found you had written this:
“The last time I saw John Densmore (Tribaljazz) was in 1967 at the Continental Ballroom. He was then with a group called The Doors.”
As it happens, I am currently trying to find an exact date for when The Doors appeared at the Continental Ballroom. Do you happen to remember anything about when you might have seen the band there (early in the month, late in the month, summer, fall, weekday, weekend) or even the actual date of the performance? Any information you can share would be a big help.
Thanks!
Hi Porsche,
The Doors – Santa Clara Continental Ballroom:
July 9th, 1967 or November 19th, 1967
They were there twice. I think I was there in Nov. at night
A guy named Randy had a booth there along the back wall.
He sold posters and incense. He got us in – so no ticket stubs.
It wasn’t a ballroom or continental. First it was a roller skating rink and then a warehouse.
Jim Morrison was lovely leaning against a wall. He tried his best to look indifferent.
I will ask Gary (my brother) he might remember…

Hi Joann…Thanks for your response! I like your description of the venue, heh.
I believe you found those two dates on the web? They both actually refer to the same show, but are just best guesses at the actual date. They aren’t based on any handbills or posters so the date remains unconfirmed. I’ve also seen November 3, 1967 suggested. But again, it’s not based on any article or concert attendee’s recollection, just an educated guess. So any information you or your brother have could prove very helpful to nailing down an exact date. As far as I know, the band only played the Continental Ballroom in Santa Clara once.
Do you have any other memories of that night that stick out about the show? I love reading different Doors concert recollections.
I just applied for a job at this new In-n-Out! I’m pretty excited and hoping to get an interview or something! *crossing fingers*
Lianna,
We here at San Jose Metblogs wish you luck. Got a lot of fingers crossed for you!
