Evening Parking Downtown No Longer Free
Starting today, Jan. 2, a $2.00 flat rate will be charged to cars entering city-owned parking garages and lots after 6:00 pm seven nights a week. Most garages/lots will continue to be free weekends from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm.
Monday through Friday, the rate is 75 cents every 20 minutes from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm in the city-owned garages/lots.
The Fourth Street Garage at San Fernando Street across from the library is free from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm, a free hour to run in and take care of library business.
There are exceptions depending on the garages/lots including events in the area. Also, the Thursday though Saturday late night $5.00 fee will continue at least until Jan. 8.
These changes apply to city owned garages/lots so it is best to check which parking facility you will use. The interactive map at the San Jose Downtown Parking Web site can help. Click on the facility closest to your destination to see rate information; included are all parking garages. Check the rates as some garages charge $6.00 evenings and have higher day charges than others.
