Los Gatos Apple Retail Store

Today, I took a quick trip to Los Gatos to get a first hand look at the continuing construction of the new Apple Retail Store located at 23-25 N. Santa Cruz. Unfortunately I saw no signs of life at the construction site. The building (formerly the home of Studio 42), still sports the large trademark black painted wall and Apple markings typical during the construction of a new Apple Retail Store. I waited in my car parked across the street from the site with plans to catch someone entering or leaving the site. I would have asked questions about the stores progress, and maybe sneak in a snap-shot or two of the interior…..no such luck.

I have a few friends who are residents of Los Gatos and when asked, these “Mac-Centric” folks had hoped that the Apple store opening would be timed with the release of the iPhone which is now set for June 29…..that ain’t gonna happen. I put in a call to the Los Gatos Chamber of Commerce and was told that the store will open for business mid-August 2007. If you can make it, plan on attending the grand opening of the new Los Gatos Apple Retail Store. These events are a blast, with lots of giveaways, prizes, and plenty of swag for the first few hundred people entering the store. So don’t be discouraged by the look of the exposed frame-work on the upper half of the building, and rumors of issues with the proposed trademark shiny silver & glass store front face. “If you build it, they will come”…..

Also: Apple Inc. is still taking applications for the position of “Mac Genius” at the Los Gatos location. For more info on Apple Retail Stores world wide go here.

I hope they open an Apple store, at least a mini-store at Eastridge. I hate having to drive down to Oakridge or to Valley Fair just to pick a couple of things up. Apple seems to pick places with really bad parking.

I’m nearby the Oakridge Mall store so parking is not that big a deal (with the exception of Christmas…..yikes!). But I do agree about crap for parking around free standing Apple Retail stores. The first Apple Retail store I went to was in Palo Alto, CA. I had to park about 5 blocks away from the store, and walk back….bummer. I think Los Gatos will be even worst.
