Higher and Higher

311 in Willow Glen

According to AAA’s Daily Fuel Gauge Report the national average for self-serve regular gas, as of  3:01:05 AM this morning, was $2.685. Here in San José the best I found was at the ARCO on Meridian Ave. Unleaded is $3.11.

If you think you’ll fix ‘em by parking your car and taking Caltrain be prepared to pay 25 cents per zone more each way. Many commuters will need to budget for an additional $60 a month.

I’ll bet that ARCO is one of those that only takes cash; they conveniently offer an ATM that charges outrageous fees which then makes the gas price even higher than stations that DO take credit cards.
The price near my house, Alameda/Rose Garden area, is $3.33 for regular. Last week their premium price was a few cents shy of $4.00.
I’ll bet that people are starting to wish that the light rail system here wasn’t a pointless joke and actually went where they need to go.

As a taxi driver my gas bill is just under $1,000.00 a month. Yes, we (cabbies) pay for it, so I am just happy for a few pennies off; anyway that works.

Gene: You’re right on many counts. The Arco near my house does make money on ATM charges. The Light Rail system, which does short distances, is kind of a joke, since you effectively spend more time and money.

Arco’s less than Shell or Chevron, yes. I’m happy using Costco, where I get to save a lot more pennies.
